GLMSMC GEM LAPIDARY MINERAL SOCIETY MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Do you collect minerals? Like to learn about fossils? Interested in creating jewelry? Have a child excited about rocks and minerals? Or just want to learn about what is under your feet? Then read on… and join.

For over fifty years we have shared our excitement and knowledge of earth sciences, geology, mineralogy, paleontology (fossils), lapidary arts, and related subjects. Members represent a broad cross section of adults, juniors and families with all levels of expertise. Sharing this common interest, they enjoy the fun of collecting, studying, identifying, displaying, cutting, polishing, faceting, and sharing.

You need not have a degree in Earth Science or Geology! We have over 100 members with a variety of interests in earth sciences and lapidary arts. We are affiliated with the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies, Inc. and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies, Inc.

Our meetings typically have a few minutes of business and announcements, followed by a guest speaker. After a short break, we catch up on any remaining announcements followed by our members’ show and tell table, and door prize drawings. We also have active junior programs (see meeting times below) for 10 to 15 year olds.

We adhere to the American Federation of Mineralogical Society Code of Ethics. Our Mission is to increase knowledge and popular interest in earth sciences, geology, mineralogy, paleontology (Fossils), lapidary arts, and related subjects.

Gem Cutters Guild of Baltimore

WELCOME

The Gem Cutters Guild of Baltimore, Inc. is an organization with the purpose of increasing awareness and appreciation of the lapidary arts and sharing the knowledge of lapidary sciences and jewelry fabrication with the local community.

The Guild is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization We offer informational programs at our monthly meeting sheld the 1st Tuesday of each month September thru June, at 7:30 PM in our workshop located at Meadow Mill at Woodberry (next to the Woodberry light rail station) 3600 Clipper Mill Road, suite 116 Baltimore, MD 21211

We sponsor classes in both lapidary and jewelry fabrication, runs field trips and sponsor exhibitions such as the  GEM MINERAL JEWELRY & FOSSIL SHOW ; held annually at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

The Guild is a founding member of the Eastern Mineralogical & Lapidary Societies (EFMLS) Region IV – Delaware, Maryland, DC and Virginia and affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS)

About Us: The Chesapeake Gem & Mineral Society is a Baltimore, MD based non-profit organization whose members share an interest in gems, minerals and fossils and rocks to name just a few. We are a  member of the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical &  Lapidary Societies (EFMLS) and affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS). Our meetings normally include either a featured speaker or an auction (March, June and October). Guests are always welcome at our meetings which are held at the Natural History Society of Maryland, 6908 Belair Rd; Baltimore, MD 21206.  Our gatherings begin at 7:30 pm. on the 4th Wednesday of each month except November, December and June.

The Gem Cutters Guild of Baltimore, Inc.

The Gem Cutters Guild of Baltimore will hold its, 52nd Annual  Atlantic Coast Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show. To be held at The Howard County Fairgrounds, 2210 Fairgrounds Road, West Friendship, MD  21794-9604.          This year’s event will occur on Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th, 2016. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.   The show features quality dealers from all over the United States who sell jewelry, gemstones, minerals and fossils. Also featured are exhibits and displays of these items. There will be jewelry making, gemstone cutting, and related craft demonstrations and classes. Special displays and activities are available for children, including an opportunity to mine for real gemstones.   Admission: Adults $6.00 Children under 12 and scouts in uniform are free, when accompanied by an adult.   Directions to the Fairgrounds:   From Baltimore take I-70 to Rt. 32 south; Turn right on Rt. 144 west Fairgrounds Road is half a mile on the right.   From Washington area – Routes 29 or 95 North to Rt. 32 west/north; turn left on Rt. 144 west- Fairgrounds road is a half of a mile on the right.
